I saw a similar chair on a televised auction site and had to build one. I made the chair out of mahogany purchased, of course, at Woodworkers Source here in Tucson. Drew all my own plans, and when I showed the splat plans to my son (who was a chiropractic student) he said, "You are going to give it a lumbar curve, of course." Well, that doubled the effort on those splats and I had to cut them from 8/4 mahogany. Cutting the splats took some time since I do not have a scroll saw--used my jig saw upside down in a vise. But the most time was spent on those claw feet! I can't imagine building a whole set of table and eight chairs, all with those feet. Somehow we got to the finish, and I used a traditional shellac on the mahogany. Took less than six weeks, working half days, including drawing the plans and upholstering the seat.
