Excellent product
I restored a sailboat and used a combination of Tropical Walnut and Afrormosia. This combination was recommended by WWS. Excellent advice.
Familiarity: I've used it in a LOT of projects

Tropical Walnut -- Had I only knonn
I make a lot of boxes. All kinds, all shapes. I use domestics and exotics, frequently with inlays and veneers. Black walnut has been one of my favorites for years. And tropical walnut is turning out to be an excellent alternative to domestic walnut. It's got a rich chocolate color consistency throughout and a straighter grain than traditional black walnut. It's also a bit lighter in weight which adds to the appeal of a small hand-crafted box. I plan on using tropical walnut much more often. Thanks to the folks at Woodworkers Source for bringing tropical walnut to my attention.

Good material, slightly thin
I got boards ranging from 4 1/4" to 4 3/4 inches. Color is very good, far more consistent than what you find in the FAS American walnut piles in the lumber yards. It's a great substitute for American walnut as long as you're not looking for figure. This is pretty straight grained. Although the surfaced material was a little over 3/4" thick, there were machine marks. Once I barely took out the machine marks with a drum sander, final dimensions were .71" to .75. So if you need a 3/4 inch spec, this may not work for you.
