Reviews for Purple Heart 4/4 Lumber

I had a piece of 4/4 purple heart shipped to me because I live over 200 miles from the store. The piece selected was perfect, and don't think that I would have gotten a better piece if I had selected it myself. Purple heart is pretty easy to work with, but if routing, use a backer board on it because it is quite brittle, and can/will chip. This wood really pops when finished...it's beautiful!

This will look good in my cutting board.

The well packaged piece of purple heart wood arrived fairly promptly. (We are in a pandemic, after all.) It was a beautiful piece with gorgeous grain and a lovely color. It was in perfect condition, no splitting, irregularity or other problems. I look forward to working with it.

Nice lumber easy to work with

Ordered small amount of purpleheart mostly for small projects and it is wonderful. Arrived earlier than expected and was in great shape. It was only 5 board feet but it will cover what is needed. great job!

Wood was absolutely beautiful and finished it looks amazing.

It was roughly planed and one of the straight edges you cut was far from straight. The wood was fantastic . wonderfully varied and I got more than expected. I have been equally happy with the walnut and cheery I've ordered as well. I wouldn't even think about sourcing elsewhere at this point. I want, as well, not to ever get optimistic delivery predictions. You guys should regularly adjust those dates to reality.

I didn't order enough, but it's OK because I had nothing in mind to make out of it!

very good looking wood. Came in a little twisted. I got 1x6x 8. Overall I like what I got for the price. I recommend trying, might not be perfect but what the hell.

Absolutely gorgeous wood. It is and eye grabber. So far it had been easy to work with on my table saw and chop saw .

I received very nice boards, though slightly duller than my last order of Purpleheart. Every order I've placed has arrived in great shape, very well packed.

This was my 1st order which included both Purple Heart and Black Walnut. Both the Black Walnut and the Purple Heart were delivered blemish free and undamaged, neither too dry nor too much moisture. Good solid wood

Could not have been more pleased with the selection. Lovely grain and color and just what I needed for the accent in the headboard.

This was my first project using purple heart. I made flight boards for displaying wine glasses or shot glasses. The boards I received had a minor twist, which was easily remedied with a little planing. I finished with poly spray and the boards elicit oohs and aahs. The "waste" was glued up and I'm making salt and pepper shakers.

I am very happy with the order. The packaging protected the wood perfectly during shipping. I wouldn't have ended up with better wood if I had selected it myself in the store. I just wish I were closer to the store.

The purpleheart board I received was not straight. It had several issues. WWS does work with you and do their best to satisfy your order. I think they were just at the end of their inventory and my order was placed before the new shipment came in.

I make bowls and this is my first experience with this wood. First it is stunning. The color is just amazing. When using the table saw or router it is imperative that you wear a mask. Just like walnut it is a fine powder and you must take precautions.

This is some gorgeous wood..can't wait till my project is finished...

I started a project that called for some purple heart. the piece that was sent was perfect. And if I don't make to many mistakes I will ever have some left over!

The quality, grain pattern, color and cut are extraordinary. Quality is of the utmost importance for me, since I build heirloom furniture. I know this will be a peice to be admired for generations.

Very nice. Exceeded my expectations. The board was perfect in length, width, and overall quality. You are definitely my "go-to" source for unusual lumber! Kudos! Am soon to "play" with it; can't wait much longer. (My full-time job is to preach The Word; when I can indulge it, my hobby allows me to cut the board--& make things with it!)

I'm building small (10" long) wooden race cars for my grandkids. I face join 3-4/4 boards to form the body. Two maple and, for the boys, cherry to make a center stripe. For my granddaughters I decided to make the center strip with Purple Heart. I haven't used it yet but it is a an absolutely beautiful piece of lumber. I can't wait to begin working with it. I've done some research and found that it is very hard and tends to dull cutting tools so I'll make sure I use sharp saw and router blades.

I ordered a couple bf of this in one piece about 37" long and the color is great! However, I actually couldn't use it for the original project because it looked like it had been sniped by a planer pretty deep for about the last 6" on one end. I still give it 5 stars because the rest of the wood was so nice. I ended up making something else out of what was usable. But I will say i've used woodworkers source several times and always gotten really great lumber!

The wood was of good quality but not the rich real purple I'm used to, not something somewhere between a purple and the brown-red of bubinga.

One of my favorites. Kind of hard to work, with burns easy in the router and table saw. Get great results with a deft spray finish.

Doesn't quite work as nice as cherry or walnut does, but those ain't purple neither. I made a lot of stuff with purplehart. and I keep doing it still. I like it.

One of my favorite woods. It's not all that nice to work with as it kind of burns easy and it's coarse grained which causes some splinters. But there's something about the way it looks all polished up that gets me to look past its workability shortcomings.
