I recently purchased a guitar kit with a mahogany body and maple neck, and decided to try a finish with Tru Oil. This is the first time I've done a serious woodworking project and didn't want to screw it up, so I wanted to try the finish on some test wood pieces first. Locating mahogany and maple scraps turned out to be harder than I assumed, especially smaller pieces that cost $20 or less each. The pieces from Woodworkers Source were exactly what I needed, and cost less than $20 together shipped. The pieces really helped me to get a feel for sanding and applying the oil, and gave an accurate preview of how my finishing process looks on the actual guitar.\n\nThe mahogany looks especially awesome with Tru Oil. It darkens up and reveals lots of interesting details. With maple, the change in appearance was more subtle. It goes from a soft white to more of an amber white, but does help to show off the grain. It also has a nice feel to it, which is the main consideration for a guitar neck.

Hardwood Sample
My order was very small yet this fine company handled me as if I was a regular customer. The package arrived quickly, was exactly as illustrated and described, in fine condition. I very much recommend this firm, and will use them again when the need arises.

Just what I needed.
I purchased this beautiful piece of wood to make a custom tremolo block for a Fender Stratocaster. Eric Clapton is the genius behind the technique. Basically I needed a piece of tonal wood to fit into the space between the tremolo block and the body of the guitar. By doing this it brings the entire body of the guitar into the mix increasing tone, sustain and resonance. Mahogany is one of the best tonal woods out there, Gibson Les Paul's use this wood exclusively. Anyway, this was a perfect piece of wood and I would recommend it for any type of use as it is extremely beautiful.

Genuine Mahogany Sample
Sample showed grain which was needed to match to grain on entrance door and frame. Ordered 4 samples of different woods to match grain and see color of wood before staining.
