Reviews for Character Hickory 4/4 Lumber

I am not sure if this matters, but it seems that if orders are assigned pickers, perhaps we can specify wood selection in the comments when we order. For instance, I got some lumber that had more sap wood than desired. If I specify I want boards with mostly heart wood, does that have an impact when pickers select the wood? Thanks.

Wow. Absolutely gorgeous wood. Just disappointed I didn't get to place an order for 8/4 before before the sale ended.

FedEx messed up the delivery, but Woodworkers Source did a good job of getting the missing package replaced in a reason amount of time. Jake at the support desk was great.

Beautiful lumber. They sent the coloration i asked for.

I was pleased that the size of the lumber was in useful dimensions so once I cleaned it up I was able to meet the requirements of the job. The board came in decent shape with only minor checks. Dimensionally it was square enough that once sized it was flat and square.

First time experience with hickory. I'm used to seeing it in smokers. The boards I received have a nice pale color with straight grain. Perfect for the bow saw I'm making.

Hickory was well selected, got good mix of clear and tonal variations. The sizes I specified were accurately filled. One of the boards did have live edge, so don't expect it to be 100% sanded on all sides; however it did not matter as I needed to form all of them anyway.

For someone who isn't in the trade or lumber industry ordering was simple enough to figure out. I just wanted a sample of a particular type of wood. It was pretty painless. Delivery was within the stated timeline. I was trying to match existing cabinets because we wanted a sample that we could test stain colors. The grain matched what we had nicely. No complaints here!

The wood was very nice and just what I asked for.

Was pretty excited to see the price on the hickory - but when i got it was a little disappointed. I got 4 total boards and all of them are literally half and half sapwood/heartwood. I didn't specify that i wanted only heartwood, but honestly didn't think i would have to. It's sawn well enough and the boards are fairly clear, just have to figure out what I'll do with boards that are 50/50 heart/sap. Definitely be sure to put in a note if you want only heartwood or else you are rolling the dice with less "desirable" boards.

I asked for 8" wide, 2 pcs. 48" long, I received 1 pc. 96" x 9"- not a problem (it makes it easier to move around) I can have some extra that would have been short if cut as I had wanted- VERY straight, not a single color other than white, no sapwood (not easy to find in Hickory), Perfect in every way- Many Thanks WWS

Mostly white wood with little boards of hickory appearance of brown and white mix. Last order very pleased with quality and variety of boards and lengths..This time disappointed.

I ordered 3 pcs. of Hickory 8" x 96"- the order arrived very quickly, the Hickory is as normal, PERFECT!!! every board is better than I could have hoped for, this species is one of my favorite to build furniture with , it's HARD and makes nice looking chairs, tables (legs and tops, even aprons)- WWS has the BEST Hickory

Lovely wood with perfect grain for my project, exactly what I needed. When I ordered I wasn't quite clear on what I needed and that was my mistake. After the wood had shipped I realized my mistake and had just concluded that it was going to be a waste . I had however mentioned what the wood was to be used for. The results: The lumber I received was perfect for my project proving the pickers knew what I needed more than I did. Couldn't be happier. Plus the hyperbole in the confirmation/shipping email was wonderful.

I have ordered Hickory from WWS before and was very happy with my order, the recent order had more sapwood than previously, but still useable for my project, every board was straight and flat, I found no flaws in any of my order, when I asked for 8" wide boards, that is what I received (I would like to see more "Rustic Knotty Hickory" but I understand)- Thanks Very Much for the very best of all the species that have been shipped to me (I'm 350 miles from another supplier, not the quality you folks have)- I will be ordering more again

The sizes were all very workable with lots of useable widths and lengths. I have purchased nearly 1,000 board feet of nearly 30 species from Woodworkers source and I have NEVER been disappointed with even 1 board foot. Don't be worried Canadian woodworkers, these people know what they are doing with across-the-board shipping. I have received wood delivered to my doorstep cheaper than I can buy for in Regina (shipping included). Thanks Craig & Robert

Very nice wood and I would order from you again. However, since I ordered from you guys I found a local source. The pricing is close but shipping makes is hard to order from you again. When I can't find the wood locally, I'll order from you.

Large knot that make 1/3 of the board unusable. I was very surprised that my "fellow woodworker" who hand selected my board one board at time would have intentionally selected this particular board. Alas, the rest of the board was useable and the other hickory board was good so all in all I won't complain too much. I've ordered a lot of wood here and have to say 95% of it was top notch

GREAT. You guys should write what wood it is in pencil on the pieces. Don't assume everybody can identify the pieces they buy. With that, I will most likely buy from you again. THANX

This order was well packaged and delivered quickly the only problem was that 10 bf of the 15 bf was actually Pecan and not Hickory but since most people can't really tell the diffrence it will be fine to incorporate into my dinning room table. I WILL BUY FROM YOU AGAIN!!!!

This was the first time I bought hickory.Didnt know what I get.It seemed kind of rough on the faces and a few splits on the edges but nothing I cant work with.

The Hickory is excellent. It arrived well packaged and undamaged. Packages were HEAVY, but I expected that with hickory. The thickness was nearly uniform at 13/16. It took only 2 passes through the planer for a smooth surface at 3/4. Good color matching and no knots or milling flaws.
