Poor quality

Severe bow, more than 1/2 inch, in the pieces I was given. The straight line rip took a chunk out of one of the pieces. Completely useless for actually making a table.

Sepele order

Review for 4/4 Sapele Ribbon Stripe (Quarter Sawn) Lumber Pack - Select Count & Size

I appreciate the online lumber sales Woodworkers source provides. I’ve ordered in the past and been happy. But I am very unhappy with the sepele I just received. More than half the boards had dark discoloration throughout. I can’t send this to my customers. Then I will get complaints. Really disappointed they sent me boards like this. Makes me feel like I’m not valued as a customer.

Received bowed boards

Review for 3/4" Walnut PRE-CUT Pack, 4 Boards (Choose Your Size)

3 of the 4 in the pack were bowed. The boards were already a small size but receiving them bowed means they will have to be planed again and even less material is usable. This might be normal for larger boards but small boards means I just wasted money.

Warped boards and splintered edges

Review for 3/4" Baltic Birch Pre-Cut Plywood Pack (Choose Your Size)

The good:\r\n- Boards are indeed 18 mm thick, with 1 good face\r\n- Have not encountered any voids\r\n\r\nThe bad:\r\n- Main one: boards are twisted, out of 6x 20"x30" boards, only 1 was actually flat\r\n- The non-factory edges are not straight, and have noticeable splintering\r\n\r\nI'm relatively new to woodworking and have mostly stuck with bigger construction grade projects thus far. I was hoping to use these sheets as shelving in my linen closet, but was disappointed that only 1 was flat enough to be used as is. \r\n\r\nI have shimmed the rest with some scrap wood at the back so they don't wobble so the money wasn't completely wasted; however, for the price and hype around Baltic birch being incredibly flat and stable I was expecting more.\r\n\r\nAs other commenters have noted, I also feel that this plywood is not flat enough to make jigs out of.\r\n\r\nNote: I am in WA while the plywood came from AZ, so maybe the warp is from the quick change in climates

Lots of glue pockets this round

Review for Laser Cutter's 1/8" Baltic Birch Plywood Bulk Pack: 12" x 20"

This is my third batch of 50 sheets, and I must say, I think the quality might be going down hill. First batch was great, second batch was okay until the end, and third batch, man, so many glue pockets that do not let the laser cut through. I'm not sure what is going on with the quality here. I think I'll give another source a try to let this one cool off.

Knots in patches in face veneer

Review for 3/4" (18mm) Lightweight Premcore Plus White Birch Pre-Cut Plywood Pack (Choose Your Size)

It's not awful plywood by any means, albeit very lightweight, and certainly beats big box stores in terms of quality and flatness... **Except** that they say explicitly in the description "[b]est of all the face veneer is a clean, white birch that's free of patches, knots and blemishes." If only...\r\n\r\nOf the six 20"x30" panels I ordered, four had patches and/or knots (generally both, with filler applied to the chipped-out knots -- I'd add photos, but that doesn't appear to be an option for reviews for some reason).\r\n\r\nIn any case, it's disappointing and not true to their word in the slightest. I'd happily have paid a bit more for a better product if it meant getting truly clean faces. As it stands, I'm not sure what this product is useful for; I'd certainly be fine with the knots and filled bits if it was for a cabinet carcass/interior, but these are pre-cut panels 24"x46" at biggest. Maybe drawer boxes or painted pieces (prime and sand well, though).

Thin Veneer

Review for 1/4" (5.2mm) Premium Walnut Plywood on MDF Core Full Size 4'x8'— Store Pickup

Overall I am surprised at the quality of this plywood. The veneer is incredibly thin and shows through with the slightest touch. If durability is a concern I would not recommend this product. The sheet I had measured an average of .190", well below the "actual" 5.2mm(.205") and a comical 75% of 1/4". While the appearance is good on first inspection I would not use this product again due to the fragile veneer.

Disappointed

Review for 1-3/4" Purple Heart Pre-Cut Squares

I ordered several pieces of wood, including 2 or 3 purpleheart turning squares. One arrived all chewed up and split. (One piece of maple was split but I could work around it.) I immediately contacted the seller and they send me a replacement piece. The replacement piece was badly burnt and "diveted" on two sides. I wrote the seller, saying don't bother sending me a replacement, but that I was very disappointed. You would think that when they were trying to do it right, at least then they'd get it right. So, I'm still looking for a place I can rely on. Woodworkers Source is not that place.

Review for 1-3/4" Knotty Alder Pre-Cut Squares

The Alder Furniture Squares sent to me were terrible. There were splits in the ends of every one of them and stress cracks in the body of two as well as splits in the ends. Honestly, they looked like seconds that you were trying to get rid of. The Alder 4/4s lumber I ordered from you was excellent by the way and turned into a beautiful display table. I had to take a trip to Walla Walla Washington (200miles round trip) to purchase 8/4s Alder lumber and I cut the legs for my table myself. I could not wait to get exchange replacements from you as I had a deadline to meet. Thanks anyway. The Alder lumber itself was great - just poor furniture squares.

This was my 6th order. All the rest were great! This one was disappointing. I ordered 2 boards so I could edge glue the into one large piece. Okay Wood, Service... not so much.

Review for Bloodwood 4/4 Lumber

First of all... and maybe it's my personal lack of experience; if so I apologize in advance if I am being unfair here... but when I ordered 4/4 stock, I expected it to measure a full inch - NOT 13/16", which this did. Had I known it was going to measure 13/16", I would have purchased 1/2" stock instead, as it was my intention to rip the lumber into 11 mm blanks. The missing 3/16" means that I will get half the mileage out of this purchase than intended. So I could be happier about that; but as I say, it could well be my fault for not knowing better.\n\nApart from that, this is a fine looking piece of wood, albeit less attractive in color than most other bloodwood I've purchased from other sources. That will, of course, vary from piece to piece, and should be considered an acceptable risk when buying sight unseen. That being said... Would I have purchased this piece of wood had I seen it at my local lumberyard? Probably not. Especially when taking into account the cracks on one end rendering approx. 3" waste. On a board measuring 18" long, that might be considered an acceptable amount of waste, and it could just be that I've been VERY lucky with other wood purchases from other venders; but this is for me the worst I've ever experienced.

The product was received damaged at one end and down one side. I explained that I wanted the wood for cabriolet legs ie 4" square, the wood was 10" wide leaving me a large unusable quantity. This is the second time I have received unsuitable wood from this company, the last time I had to send it back and have it replaced, this time it wasn't possible due to time constraints. S2S doesn't mean usable as is - be advised

Review for Premium Black Walnut 6/4 Lumber, Clear One Side

Beautiful wood (hence 2*, not 1*), but I found the S2S claim to be very misleading. The two largest boards in my order have significant cupping - I'd say ~10"x 8" ovals, maybe 1/8" deep. So those will have to be planed much further (and given my project that'll then have to be done to every board whether it needs it or not).\n\nWhen I called to ask whether further planing would be needed I was advised that S2S boards that WWS stocks only need finish sanding. I guess I was told wrong. I went with WWS specifically because I don't own a surface planer, and will need to figure out a workaround now.\n\nAlso, and less significant, a fair number of dents and chips on the finished edges (appears to be shipping damage), so further jointing needed too. Another piece of equipment I don't own.

Review for 1/2" Baltic Birch Pre-Cut Plywood Pack (Choose Your Size)

This is worse then what i can get at my local Meeks lumber store but at Meeks it only cost me $29 for a 5 foot x 5 foot size. I was expecting a better wood for what i paid.\n\nLots of imperfections in the wood i was sent i will not be ordering more.\nOver all i think i was charged way to much for this

Review for 1/8" Baltic Birch Pre-Cut Plywood Pack (Choose Your Size)

This last shipment was a big disappointment. Over half of my order had flaws or fish eyes on both sides. I have ordered many times and this was the wits product I've ever receive.

8/4 Popular

Review for Poplar 8/4 Lumber

Disappointed in the product. Some boards had stress cracks from improper drying while others still contained bark and are not full 8/4 stock.\n\nI had previously purchased 3/4 inch stock and was extremely pleased with the product and expected the same quality with the 8/4.

6/4 Walnut

Review for Premium Black Walnut 6/4 Lumber, Clear One Side

I have placed many orders over the past 10 years, thus I was quite shocked when I received the 6/4 walnut on this order. The majority of what was sent were shorts (4' or less in length) and a number of the pieces hade significant, unusable knots. All-in-all, the lumber did not meet the "select or better" criteria that I paid for. Add the pricey shipping...and this company has left a bad taste in my mouth for the first time!

Nice Looking Wood But Warped

Review for Natural Hard Maple 4/4 Lumber

I've used Woodworkers Source several times and have usually been very pleased. This hard country maple looks very good, but most of it I got on my order was warped and I can't use it for the intended project. The planer appeared to have chewed up the middle part of a long section also on one of the boards. I'm attempting a "warped" version of the project in hopes to come up with something unique... Still a big fan of Woodworkers Source :)

Had to return it - doesn't come close to lumber

Review for Genuine Mahogany Paper Back Veneer Sheet - 4' x 8' Roll

I ordered this with the mahogany lumber they had on sale. Even though I knew it wasn't from the same source, I expected a mahogany look like I saw at a Woodcraft, a local lumber supplier, and samples from a veneer supplier. I was also told it was consistent with the lumber. I had to return it because it didn't resemble mahogany in my opinion. Also, it had a different color base from the lumber. The stuff I saw locally was much closer.

Not happy

Review for Natural Hard Maple 4/4 Lumber

A lot of unusable wood was sent with this order. This was the first time I was not happy with the wood sent to me. A lot of saw dust was made to get straight useable material.

High price for 20% sapwood

Review for Premium Black Walnut 12/4 Lumber, Clear One Side

Not terribly pleased as I was charged for an additional bf at generous price and the stick had too much sapwood. I'll think twice before buying from this supplier again.

Review for Hard White Maple 8/4 Lumber

They were all warped and twisted. I had to build a taper jig to surface 2 sides. I couldn't use them straight out of the box on my jointer. Some got nasty grain that planning them get them even rougher. They were not cheap either.

Four 2' x 2' Red Oak Turning Squares

Review for 1-3/4" Red Oak Pre-Cut Squares

Hello,\n Unfortunately one of the blanks has a knot (hole) that extends through the entire thickness of the blank. When I received it I thought it was merely on the edge of the blank and therefore would not be an issue after I turned it round however upon turning I discovered that the knot extends as mentioned. I cannot use this blank for the original design intended.\n\nBest Regards,\nBill Glenwright

Mahogany turning squares; I'll try again

Review for 1-3/4" Genuine Mahogany Pre-Cut Squares

These squares were to be used as legs for a coffee table. But both pieces showed a lot of sapwood; one is unusable for this project, and the other only marginally so.

Go the extra mile

Review for Genuine Mahogany 4/4 Lumber

I have bought these shorts in the past and for the extra price, specified certain widths and asked for top quality boards. I wasn't disappointed as the lumber I received was excellent and right in line with what I asked for. This time however I didn't specify anything thinking that if I'm ordering 20+ BF then I would probably get a little verity in the 4" width range as stated. Not so. All the lumber I received was 4-5" width and not a straight board in the lot. The price is pretty good but if you want something good then pay the extra price to specify what you want.

Somewhat Disappointed

Review for Poplar 4/4 Lumber

Along with this purchase of 80 Ft of poplar, I also bought 130 Ft of soft maple and red oak -- online, sight unseen. I was completely satisfied with the maple and oak - see my reviews. But my experience with this poplar is much different.\n\nFirst - the good. Communication has been excellent. Packaging was well done, and delivery was very fast. Square footage was right on. The grain pattern and color is pretty good and waste will be under 10%. \n\nNow the not-so-good. I bought this for use as painted faceframe, door stile and rail, and drawer front stock. Despite allowing two weeks for acclimation, of the 25 or so boards I got, only 6 will be acceptable for my use. All of the other boards are so badly warped that they cannot be used as door frames or drawer fronts. Maybe I should have expected this of 4/4 S2S poplar sourced from AZ. I can salvage enough of this stock for the faceframes, but will have to substitute locally available clear pine for the rest of my project.

Not the best quality

Review for Bloodwood 4/4 Lumber

I ordered two pieces and unfortunately oe was warped a little and the second piece was warped terrible. It had a one inch deflection over 3 foot length. I'll be able to cut it up for use as very small pieces but this isn't what I wanted it for originally.

knotty alder

Review for Alder Knotty 4/4 Lumber

Unhappy in Illinois. I thought s2s was sanded two sides. I also thought the wood was planed to 13/16 inch. My wood is at least 15/16 inch. I received wood that has bark on the face. Of the three pieces I received two have splits on the ends. Now I understand why the knotty alder was so cheap. I just wish I could use it for a project. I might be able to hold open a door with it. It may be a while, or never again, if I place another order.

Not one of my favorite woods

Review for Teak 4/4 Lumber

I only work with teak if I can't talk my customer into going with iroko or afromosia instead. Maybe ipe, depending on the job. Teak looks great and all but I just don't like how it dulls my blades pretty fast.
