Steering wheel for 1951 MGTD

This wheel was built out of two hexagons of paduak wood and routed into a circle. At every 'hour' is Australian mother of pearl set in brass, and at 10, 2 and 6 are 'rosettes' of an MG logo built of contrasting wooden strips. Similar to intaglia or marquetry, except that I built this logo using 40+ strips of wood which I assembled into a nine inch long log which I then turned on a lathe. I could then simply cut quarter inch plugs from it and insert these into the wheel. The fillets which encase the spoke ends at 10, 2 and 4 are made from Honduras rosewood. -- Originally posted by gbakertucson
