Letter Holders

Cody made the letter holders out of scrap walnut and maple, the kind of offcuts most people tossed aside. But he saw potential in the contrast—dark and light, rough and smooth. He wasn’t trying to make anything fancy, just something that felt right in the hand and right on the desk.

Each holder was a quiet blend of function and craft: clean lines, a gentle curve to cradle envelopes, a groove for postcards or bills. No nails, no fuss. Just joinery, glue, and patience. He finished them with a bit of oil and a soft cloth, watching the wood come alive under his touch.

He gave the first one to his sister, who used it for letters from their mom. Others followed—friends, neighbors, even a stranger who saw it at the farmers market and said, “It reminds me to slow down.”

Cody nodded. That’s why he built them—to hold more than just mail. To hold a moment.
