Industrial/steampunk PC case mod

This is probably a little different from most of the posts, but I hope someone may appreciate it. I'm not much of a woodworker. I mainly just have a table saw and whatever I learned in shop class back in the '80s. So when a client asked for a steampunk-themed PC, I knew there needed to be wood, and I knew I'm not skilled enough for anything fancy.

I routinely work with 1/8" acrylic for PC mods. After looking around and realizing 1/8" plywood is a thing, I had my answer. The idea was to add some accent panels, cover up some areas, and not add too much weight.

The work was really basic. I picked up a 180T Irwin blade (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002UKS7I) for my table saw - I can't cut a straight line with anything else, and these panels (esp. the exterior ones) had no room for error. I used a 45 degree angle on the edges so they would blend into the case better. I then hand-sanded everything and applied a stain (I don't recall which). To some of the panels I added some accent/designs; they were masked off with stencils and spray painted on.

Most of these panels are on the outside of the case, so needed protection from bumps and scrapes. Now, I'm sure this was due to user inexperience, but I couldn't get a wood clear coat to work. So I went with my usual, an automotive grade satin clear from Spray Max 2K - I'm sure there was a more proper way, but it worked perfectly.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading. I know it's a little rough around the edges. But I didn't post it to show off my woodworking skills - I just wanted to share something a little different. If you're interested in the hardware or other tech information you can see it on builds.gg at https://builds.gg/builds/industrialsteampunk-build-for-my-friends-library-34569.

P.S.: The client loved it.

Finish: Stained/clear coat
