Carving of a hot dog vender with cart & figure

Behold a David Ruchlo original that was entered in our Americana 2025 contest. This wooden masterpiece capturing the noble essence of a street food legend. With a steely gaze and an apron that has surely seen a lifetime of ketchup stains, this fine gentleman stands ready to serve up the world’s most reliable meal—hot dogs.

Perched beneath a patriotic umbrella, he clutches his tongs like a knight wielding a sword, prepared to flip a sausage with the precision of a trained artisan. His cart, boldly labeled “DAVE’S DOGS,” suggests a long-standing legacy, though one can only wonder—who is Dave? Is this Dave? Or is he merely a humble employee of the illustrious Dave dynasty?

The background, a charming brick wall adorned with what may or may not be an homage to an escaped Pegasus, adds an air of mystery. Meanwhile, the carefully placed miniature condiments and grilling accessories whisper tales of countless lunches served with pride. A work of art? A tribute to street food heroes? Or simply an elaborate excuse to immortalize the magic of hot dogs? You decide. (It is a street vender selling HOT DOGS what more American can you get !!)
