Slow shipping, other than that, great!
Review by  woodbutcher from West By-God
First, the bad - from order confirmation to the lumber arriving at my door was almost 3 weeks. I was expecting between 8 and 10 days according to what I read on the site. That's a long time to wait to start a project. That being said, I tried to remember that an actual person was hand-selecting this lumber for me, and I need to be patient. That brings me to the good... The good - I'm very happy with the lumber that I received. It was well packaged (but not over-packed), and all the pieces were straight with no warping, no cupping, and very little bend even on the longer pieces. I spent the extra money on the straight-line-rip service, and I'm glad I did. It's not that expensive, and it's one less process I'll have to do. It was relatively knot-free, and the few knots that are there can easily be worked around. This was nearly all heartwood - I think one of the 6" pieces may have had an inch or so of sapwood at one end. This is the difference between someone hand-selecting each piece and just grabbing x amount of pieces off the shelf. The quality is definitely there, and you wind up with more usable pieces. The boards were planed and (unless you're thicknessing further) only need light sanding before finishing. A few of the boards even had some nice cross-grain figure that you don't always see in walnut. Now here's the best part - a decent percentage of the boards I received were quartersawn! I wasn't expecting that, and of course your mileage may vary, but I was impressed enough to make me want to order again. The price you'll pay per boardfoot might be steeper than your local mills, and you don't have the advantage of being able to pick out the lumber yourself like you can at a yard, but if you're like me and don't have a yard that caters to woodworkers anywhere near you, this is the next best thing. You pay a premium price, but the quality of the lumber you get, in my book, justifies the price.

Wonderful 4/4 and 8/4 Black Walnut and Purple Heart boards
Review by  Gary from Maine
I’m making a large dining table with leaves using walnut and Purple Heart. I wanted boards with more figuring and of minimum lengths, so I selected the extra cost option for them to pick specific boards for my order. The wood is superb quality, and the extra figuring is important for this project. All boards are planes to the same thickness, which is particularly important for the very hard Purple Heart.

Fantastic experience
Review by  Damon from Austin, Texas
I was super impressed by the quality, availability, and price of the quarter sawn walnut boards. On top of that, the user interface and fast shipping was terrific. I prefer to support local businesses, but my neighborhood lumberyard is rude and not helpful. This may be due to my modest needs, but Woodworkers Source took good care of me. I will use them again very soon.

Review Black Walnut 4/4 Lumber, Quarter & Rift Sawn
Review by  Barry from California
Ordered quarter/rift sawn Walnut. Product was delivered as promised. Packaging was excellent. The board selection was pretty good considering. I was looking for mostly dark, straight grain pieces and I was able to use about 85% of what was sent. The lighter sap-wood I can use in other projects. I would order again if I need some more walnut.
