Genuine Mahogany 4/4 x 6" x 3'

Special Buy
Thanks to our global lumber sources, we've found a sweet deal on beautiful 1x6 Genuine Mahogany harvested from certified responsibly managed plantations in Fiji.

Expect the classic high-end beauty of Honduran mahogany yet at a fraction of the price. This affordable mahogany comes in a super easy size of 6" widths. Cut from wavy 6' boards, we've removed as much movement as possible to get the straightest segments.

Beauty
Cast your eyes upon Genuine Mahogany, the humble wood that makes proud furniture and musical instruments. Because of its moderate density and supreme golden-red color, mahogany is a dream to work from hand carving to machining and applying a finish. Other woods might have an appearance like genuine mahogany, but this is the species (Swietenia macrophylla) that sets the standard. Genuine mahogany is stable, flat, clear, and gorgeous.

Sustainability
In our commitment to supporting responsible forestry, instead of harvesting this mahogany from natural rain forests, we made a special purchase from a sustainably managed plantation in Fiji. Shortly after World War II, the British planted Honduran mahogany Swietenia macrophylla trees in Fiji plantations to protect the species from over-harvesting. Today, the plantations use selective harvesting to maintain the health of the forests, allowing the trees to live their full lives - while providing sustainable economic opportunities to the island locals. This is the same species as what's called "Honduran Mahogany" - the difference is that because this wood grows in, and is harvested from, certified responsibly managed plantations the wood clears complies with international trade restrictions on precious mahogany harvested from virgin rain forests.

Unique Buy
It's all 1x6 lumber rather than our usual random width offerings. With this product, you get uniform 6" widths (full 6", not 5.5") so you know what to expect. Surfaced 2 sides (S2S) from rough sawn lumber. You should be able to yield approximately 3/4" thickness after you flatten, plane, shape or sand your project parts to fit your project.

What Size Is This?
Thickness 4/4, S2S is 13/16"
Width 6"
Length 36"

Quantity 1.5 board feet in each piece

Review by  PaulM123 from AL.
Great wood spent very little time on my jointer. No knots and very colorful when sanded. I made 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, hinges out of this wood for several boxes I make.

Online Ordered
Review by  Joe from OR
The order came in the time frame promised, and the wood exceeded my expectations. I live in a place where the closest hardwood lumber dealer is hours away, so having the ability to order online from the guys I used to buy from when I lived in Arizona is beyond ideal.

Genuine Mahogany
Review by  Duane from California
The piece arrived as ordered. It appears to be a good match for a repair to a 70 year old chest of drawers. Certainly better than the nasty damage that was done to the piece before I got it.

Genuine Mahogany ?
Review by  Jon from Portland, OR
I'm not sure I got the right stuff. My project (tea table) is darker and pinker. This order was quite pale and on the yellowish side. Because it is only for a very small part of the project I can stain it well enough. It is also quite light in weight compared to the mahogany I have. Seems rather more like Spanish Cedar. Also the first piece I ripped turned out to be quite case hardened (I forgot to replace my splitter) and pinched quite severely to the point I could not complete the cut. Roughed out on bandsaw and cleaned up by just shaving a bit off the bandsawn edge. BTW left it in my shop about 10 days to acclimate after shipping. One board had about 3/8" bow in the middle of 36" piece.
