It never hurts to ask.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there are some nonstarters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n<strong>Small quantities<\/strong>&#8211; It&#8217;s difficult to special order just \none or two small pieces of a wood. To get the interest of our suppliers,\n we need to be looking at a quantity usually of at least 100 board feet.\n But there are some exceptions.<\/li><li>\n<strong>Non-commercially harvested wood<\/strong>&#8211; Fewer than 300 species\n of trees (out of a worldwide estimate of 100,000+) are actually \nharvested for their wood and allocated through the business chain of \ndistribution.<\/li><li>\n<strong>Wood from &#8220;country X&#8221;<\/strong>&#8211; Easier said than done. A lot of times species grow in regions that span several countries. For example, the mahogany species <em>Swietenia macrophylla<\/em>\n is historically called Honduras Mahogany even though it grows virtually\n in every country between Mexico and Argentina. But it&#8217;s not always \nharvested in or exported from each country. For that matter, it&#8217;s no \nlonger harvested in Honduras. That&#8217;s just to give you an example of the \ndifficulties of trying to buy a certain species from a specific part of \nthe world.&nbsp;<\/li><li>\n<strong>Bark, sticks, or leaves from &#8220;species x&#8221;<\/strong>&#8211; We sell wood.<\/li><li>\n<strong>Endangered species<\/strong>&#8211; Forget it.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maybe.
