What makes quarter sawn white oak so special is its appearance. It's one of the few woods that reveal stunning rays, or fleck figure - and that's the kind of white oak that's characteristic in arts and crafts, mission, or craftsman style woodwork. The wood makes exceptionally durable and beautiful furniture because it's dense and hard, yet it saws, routs, planes with better than satisfactory results. It's a favorite among furniture builders.
Finishing tip for quarter sawn white oak: There are a number of finishing methods to make the figure pop. We've found one of the easiest yet effect methods is to use a Danish oil (clear natural or colored, depends on your taste), then apply a clear top coat. Read about it in our blog >>>

I couldn't get 6/4 so as long as it was on sale I opted for. The 8/4 thickness. The extra thickness allowed me to improvise on the plan and make my project beefier.
The wood was nice and straight and flat with some very nice grain patterns which is what you expect when purchasing Quarter Sawn White Oak. I used this wood for a park bench I am making for the community. They wanted a good outdoor wood that would stand up to public use.

I have been purchasing the QSWO for the last several years- both on line and a few trips to the Phoenix warehouse. Its a real treat to pick through the stacks; but, have always been pleased with the shipped orders.
I would recommend the QSWO to any level woodworker. I primarily build frames and shadow boxes; but have done several table slabs for mission style round tables. Getting ready to try my hand at bathroom cabinets. Got a special on "irregular" 1/2" plywood which was qs on one side at the warehouse,. Neat !

This lumber order exceeded my expectations. The quality of the lumber is top notch -- nice grain and no knots. The quality of the communications and the securely packaged items and quick shipping were of the highest level. I will be purchasing more lumber for my next project from Woodworkers Source. Outstanding people to do business with.
