If there's any exotic wood that makes a nice touch in both small jewelry boxes and large furniture pieces, it's wenge. Wenge is a natural for striking inaly and contrast with lighter woods, or as the main panels of a table, desk, headboard, etc. The uniform, nearly black color makes it an extraordinary wood that retains color over the years.

[+] What if I need specific sizes? You'll have to cut your own pieces to size. Hardwood lumber is sold as a bulk raw product, which means that our stacks of lumber have a big variety of sizes most often from 4" up to 12" wide, and 6' to 16' long.
- Only some unusual exotic woods are narrower than 4" and under 6' long. This is clearly stated when that's the case, everything else is larger.
- We always ship the longest boards possible, and rarely ship boards less than 48" long unless you request shorter. The longest we can ship by UPS is 96" (that's 8').
For general fine woodworking, the various widths and lengths meet the needs and desires of woodworkers building furniture, cabinetry, and fine woodwork. But we do understand that certain projects have some requirements, and we're happy to help you out.
Here's how we can help you get the sizes you need:
- We can hand-select material that will yeild what you need. Type your needs into the "Selection" field right above the Add to Cart button above when you place your order. 4 things to know about size requests
- We can do some custom milling or cutting. Please call or email to talk about your needs.

Great wood but hard on your tools, 5.30.2011

I do really love working with Wenge but there are two things to definitely keep in mind: The sawdust is very toxic. Where a mask or respirator and take a shower immediately after work. In Africa they actually make a tea out of this and use it as a poison. Also, it is VERY hard on your tool blades. It will dull them quickly and as I found out the hard way you get a really nice notch in your joiner blade after just a couple of passes. It is worth it though. Wenge projects tun out beautiful with a mirror finish and although they are heavy, they are very durable.

I plain to use this wenge for accent strip in the riser of custom longbows. This beautiful dark wood will set off the many lighter colored woods I use in bow building. A magnificent piece of lumber.
