Working Properties for: Robinia pseudoacacia
The soft earlywood is reported to be more difficult to cut than the hard latewood. Overall resistance is reported to be moderate.
The wood has moderate blunting effect on cutting tools.
Black locust is reported to respond well to machine tools and works to produce smooth surfaces.
Gluing qualities are reported to be good.
The wood is difficult to nail.
Screwing properties are rated as poor.
The wood has satisfactory staining properties.
The wood is reported to polish to yield a high finish.
Response to Hand Tools
Black locust is reported to be rather difficult to work with hand tools.
Steam bending properties are reported to be very good. It bends equally well in either the green or air-dried state.
