Tooth vibration may accompany sawing, and the wood is liable to ride on cutters.


Blunting Effect

The wood is reported to have moderate blunting effect on cutting edges.


Planing

Japanese maple timber is reported to be fairly difficult to plane and work in most machining operations. It has moderate blunting effect on cutting edges and is also liable to ride on cutters. There may also be some burning in working end-grain material. A reduced cutting angle of 20 degrees is recommended for best planing results.


Gluing

The wood is reported to have excellent gluing properties.


Nailing

The material is reported to require pre-boring in nailing.


Sanding

Sanding properties are reported to be good.


Polishing

The wood is reported to have excellent polishing qualities.


Staining

Staining characteristics are reported to be excellent.


Steam Bending

Steam bending properties are reported to be very good.
