I should have been nicknamed "Old Hickory" , because I love Hickory for building LONG Lasting furniture, these 30" pieces are perfect for legs, supports or any part of furniture that requires High Strength . I'm very happy with all 12 pieces I was shipped , straight, tight grained and easy to work (if you use high quality tooling and keep it sharp) Hickory can be difficult if your bits, chisels or blades are not razor sharp, I sand when I see a twisted grain piece to avoid tearout, this order has nothing but straight grain , a mild change in color from near white to almost tan- but HARD. I will be ordering more from WWS when I use these 12 up
