Use this calculator to help you estimate how much board footage you'd like to buy. Remember, if you're calculating based on a required finished size you'll also need to estimate some extra so you have enough to work with to achieve your desired size.
You'll have to cut your own pieces to size. Hardwood lumber is sold as a bulk raw product, which means that our stacks of lumber have a big variety of sizes most often from 4" up to 12" wide, and 6' to 16' long.
Only some unusual exotic woods are narrower than 4" and under 6' long. This is clearly stated when that's the case, everything else is larger.
We always ship the longest boards possible, and rarely ship boards less than 48" long unless you request shorter. The longest we can ship by UPS is 96" (that's 8').
For general fine woodworking, the various widths and lengths meet the needs and desires of woodworkers building furniture, cabinetry, and fine woodwork. But we do understand that certain projects have some requirements, and we're happy to help you out.
Here's how we can help you get the sizes you need:
We can hand-select material that will yield what you need. Type your needs into the "Selection Request" field right above the Add to Cart button above when you place your order. 4 things to know about size requests
We can do some limited custom milling such as planing to a different thickness and straight-line ripping one edge. Please call or email to talk about your needs.

Beautiful, but short and narrow, 4.7.2014
Reviewer: JT (Middle of Nowhere, OK)
First, let me say I have ordered several $1000s in lumber from Woodworkers and 98% of the pieces come in quickly and beautiful. This order of 50 bd ft was no exception. The wood looks great; however there is one "negative" worth mentioning (hence the markdown). According to the description, the boards are 4"-10" wide of various lengths. All but about 8 board feet were less than 4" wide (average 3.75") and the longest piece was 38". This would have been good information to have before I ordered the lumber. Fortunately this will work out well for my end table project as the widest/longest board (other than the table top) will only be 3"x22".
Now, three caveats... 1) I did have the boards straight line ripped, so that could have been why almost every board was under 4". 2) Another reviewer did mention that the boards came in short and narrow for him, but the description was supposed to be corrected to reflect that. 3) I did not request specific board sizes because in the $1000s of orders I have placed I have always received boards well over 4" (most in the 6-8" range). Maybe that is my fault for not requesting...
All-in-all, I love the wood and it will work for my needs, but be careful when ordering. Anyone have any ideas for finishing Shedua?

Very handsome wood
minimum size instead of maximum, 12.13.2011

I think that the size choice for the lumber should be a little closer to what is being offered. I received the Shedua 4/4 lumber in 4" widths only 4 ft long. Although my project can use some of these smaller boards, I usually receive larger boards when I order the 4/4 lumber. I will probably have to set aside these boards until the appropriate project comes along, if ever. The lumber was in good shape and had nice grain with no warps, but I think a 6" width or larger and a 6ft length or larger category should be offered. I know I could have called and specified sizes, but this had never been an issue in the past. At least not with the over 400 board feet i have ordered this year.
Woodworkers Source Responds You are right. Sorry about the description. At the moment all shedua stock we have is small, this should be accurately described on the website. We'll get that changed, so thank you for bringing it up. We'd be happy to send you something else in exchange on our dime to get this straightened out for you. Shedua 4/4 Lumber, 8.11.2010

It is a pretty piece of lumber, This was the first time I've seen this wood, would have preferred more grain if possible? The thickness was only 3/4" not 4/4". Still a pretty piece of wood!!!
Liked it and hated it :-), 3.2.2010
