Use these to test finishes and stains, to compare color and grain characteristics, etc.

Australia and/or Tasmania

Botanical Name:
Atherosperma Moschatum
Other Names:
Tasmanian Sassafras, Black Heart, Blackheart, Southern Sassafras
Color:
Pale tan to white with irregular and interesting dark brown to nearly black markings, streaks and stripes. The color variation is very sporadic.
Characteristics:
Extremely fine texture and moderately soft. Blackheart does have good tone qualities and bends easily, so it's becoming more popular with musical instrument makers.
