Get your hands on a wood you've never tried before! It's simple. Samples are milled on all sides to the standard size of 1/2'' X 3'' X 6'', as determined by The International Wood Collectors Society, and include the shipping cost within the 48 U.S. Each one is labeled with the botanical and common names. Use these to test finishes and stains, to compare color and grain characteristics, etc.

Botanical Name:
Myroxylon balsamum
Other Names:
Balsamo, Cabriziva, Cedro chino, Chirraca, Estoraque, Incienso, Nabal, Palo de balsamo, Santos mahogany, Sandalo, Tache, Tolu
Color:
Fresh cut heartwood is reddish-brown, but darkens to deep red or somwhat purplish. Color variation between boards is moderate.
Characteristics:
Sometimes called Estoraque. The wood is hard, moderately difficult to saw, and has a high blunting effect on cutters. Sawdust from machining may cause respiratory irritation in some individuals. A dust mask or respirator is advised.
Typical Uses:
Fine furniture, cabinets, interior millwork, flooring.
