Botanical Name: Acer macrophyllem
What's the wood like?
This flowing three-dimensional figure is most common in big leaf maple, native to the Pacific Northwest. The wood is generally more soft than other maples and a little more porous. Quilted figure, though often used in high end pieces, does present some difficulties in working. Tends to chip when planed, and burns easily when used with power sanders, routers, and table saws.

Creamy white with a reddish brown tinge.
