Botanical Name: Arbutus manziesii
What's the wood like?
Very attractive, hard, heavy and strong wood that resembles hard maple, but with a more pinkish color. Madrone is tight grained, making it a superb furniture wood that finishes very well. Also easy on the tools and cutters, and an all around joy to work with.
How's the color?
Creamy tan to light pink, sometimes with a dark purplish brown band from the heart of the log.
Does it go by other names?
Pacific madrone, Madrono, Madrona, Arbuti tree, Coast madrone
What could I use it for?
Furniture, bowls, novelties, veneer, musical instruments.
What is the tree like?
A beautiful broadleaf flowering evergreen with a reddish brown trunk that grows up to 80 feet. It grows only in parts of Canada and the Pacific coast of the U.S.

Pacific USA & Canada.
