Samples are milled on all sides to the standard size of 1/2'' X 3'' X 6'', as determined by The International Wood Collectors Society, and include the shipping cost within the 48 U.S. Each one is labeled with the botanical and common names. Use these to test finishes and stains, to compare color and grain characteristics, etc.

Botanical Name: Roupala brasiliensis
 What's the wood like?
Flaky, speckled figure with dark flecks, varying from a small lacelike pattern to a larger splashy figure. Texture is fairly coarse. Moderately hard. Works easy, except for a tendency to splinter, and takes a very lustrous finish. Quite scarce timber.  How's the color?
Pale pinkish brown to medium brown.  Does it go by other names?
 What could I use it for?
Boxes, inlay, accessories, fine furniture, veneer, turnery  What is the tree like?
Grows up to 150 feet with a trunk diameter of up to 4'.

This sample of leopardwood was very nice looking and great to work with so far.. The project (my second knife) is almost complete but I have not put a finish on it yet. I cannot make up my mind, tung oil. polyurethane or CA. Trying to find some help from someone who has worked with Leopardwood.
