Botanical Name: Roupala brasiliensis
What's the wood like?
Flaky, speckled figure with dark flecks, varying from a small lacelike pattern to a larger splashy figure. Texture is fairly coarse. Moderately hard. Works easy, except for a tendency to splinter, and takes a very lustrous finish. Quite scarce timber.
How's the color?
Pale pinkish brown to medium brown.

Grows up to 150 feet with a trunk diameter of up to 4'.

This sample of leopardwood was very nice looking and great to work with so far.. The project (my second knife) is almost complete but I have not put a finish on it yet. I cannot make up my mind, tung oil. polyurethane or CA. Trying to find some help from someone who has worked with Leopardwood.
