- Grade: Samples are milled on all sides, cut square and sanded; wood is a product of nature with inconsistencies from piece to piece. Use species samples as a guide, not a perfect representation.. Botanical Name: Acacia melanoxylon
What's the wood like?
Also called Black Wattle. Fine texture, straight grain. Machining characteristics are good, but irregular sections should be machined with care and attention. Takes an excellent finish. Very similar to Koa.
How's the color?
Heartwood is golden to dark brown with a slight reddish tinge and regular dark chocolate brown splotches.
Does it go by other names?
Acacia, Black wattle, Wattle
What could I use it for?
Furniture, gunstocks, decorative veneers, cabinetry, interior woodwork, musical instruments
What is the tree like?
Grows to 80 feet high and a diameter of about 60 inches.
Where is it from?
While the tree grows in Africa, Latin America, Australia and Tasmania, our lumber comes out of Australia.
