[+] What if I need specific sizes? You'll have to cut your own pieces to size. Hardwood lumber is sold as a bulk raw product, which means that our stacks of lumber have a big variety of sizes most often from 4" up to 12" wide, and 6' to 16' long.
- Only some unusual exotic woods are narrower than 4" and under 6' long. This is clearly stated when that's the case, everything else is larger.
- We always ship the longest boards possible, and rarely ship boards less than 48" long unless you request shorter. The longest we can ship by UPS is 96" (that's 8').
For general fine woodworking, the various widths and lengths meet the needs and desires of woodworkers building furniture, cabinetry, and fine woodwork. But we do understand that certain projects have some requirements, and we're happy to help you out.
Here's how we can help you get the sizes you need:
- We can hand-select material that will yeild what you need. Type your needs into the "Selection" field right above the Add to Cart button above when you place your order. 4 things to know about size requests
- We can do some custom milling or cutting. Please call or email to talk about your needs.
Ground Shipping is included anywhere in the 48 U.S.! (What does that mean?)

Botanical Name: Acer saccharum
What's the wood like?
At least 90% white sapwood. Known for its durability and strength, hence it's common use for flooring, butcher blocks, and large furniture. It has excellent turning properties, a fine & even texture, and a natural luster. Somewhat difficult to work due to high surface hardness. Paints and finishes very well, though.
How's the color?
Creamy white to yellowish or pale tan.
Does it go by other names?
Hard maple, Rock maple, Sugar maple, White Maple
What could I use it for?
Furniture, flooring, cutting boards, butcher blocks, heavy furniture, industrial parts, veneer, inlay, musical instruments, work benches
What is the tree like?
Produces sweet sap used to make maple syrup. Matures at heights of 90-120 feet with a trunk 24-36''.
Where is it from?
Northeastern USA & Canada.

We live over 200 miles from Phoenix, so am reluctant to order lumber for furniture building via mail. We are at the mercy of the company that selects the lumber. I was pleasently surprised with the maple as I was able to use all of it. Good job.
More importantly, I just received an order of 10' curly maple and was thrilled with the lumber. It was actually curly, and each board was perfect with no waste.
I had recently ordered some exotic lumber from Cook Woods in Oregon. I am now using my $125 worth of lumber as firewood. It was so bad I was unable to use any of the order. That made dealing with you guys that much better. (Aside from the obligatory cute notes you folks send I am very pleased with you.) You have earned my trust.

    Got shorted, 6.11.2011

I had previously submitted my comments, but I guess they got lost, so I'll do this again. One of the wider boards had a split about a foot long, making it not usable at full width. Then when I measured all the boards (even taking the widest point), the 20 bd/ft order was only 18.5 bd ft. I hadn't checked the bd/ft on previous orders until I read another comment from someone else who had been shorted. I will check from now on.
