Assembled for your peace of mind, this Project Pack includes a total of 20 board feet of our premium lumber and the shipping cost within the 48 U.S. You'll get an assortment of widths (typically between 4'' and 10''), and lengths will be between 4' and 8'. Purchase a Project Pack when you need enough wood to make a medium sized project like a coffee table or cabinet. As usual, all the lumber is surfaced on two sides (S2S), and kiln dried.
Ground Shipping is included anywhere in the 48 U.S.!
Quantity: Project Packs contain 20 board feet (or slightly more), which tends to be approximately 4 to 7 boards depending on the size
Thickness: 13/16'' thick, surfaced smooth two sides (4/4 S2S)
Widths: 4''-10'' variety with rough edges. Straight line ripping on one edge is available as well (see below).
Lengths: 4'-8', and each pack contains an assortment
Grade: Knotty Frame Grade . See our page about Hardwood Grading for some details about common lumber grades and their definitions.
 All lumber is kiln dried, surfaced smooth on both sides, and available in a wide variety of sizes. We can do custom cutting and milling for you, too! Contact us.

Alder, Oregon alder, Pacific coast alder, Red alder, Western alder
Color:
Pale Yellow to Reddish Brown.
Characteristics:
A soft, relatively low-strength, straight-grained, even-textured wood. Works well with hand and machine tools, but sharp cutting edges need to be maintained to prevent tearing the grain. Rarely wider than 6''

Rustic furniture, turning, carving, toys, plywood, veneer, cabinets, musical instruments.

I'm not crazy about this wood because of the low density. Too soft for my taste, I like ash and hickory better. It does work nicely though. Not a bad price you have.

I love alder. I've made several Mexican theme dining tables, entry doors, and cabinets over the years. It's probably not a good choice if youre wanting to make something that'll take a beating because its prety soft. For southwestern / mexican style stuff, this is the best. Of course, thre's also mesquite but its not nearly as inexpensive.

Most of my doors (I make custom entry doors) are made from knotty alder. My customers love it, and it's pretty easy to work with. It doesn't take stain perfectly even though. Sometimes people prefer that blotchy look for their southwest homes. I've bought some from woodworkerssource before (came with sound knots, straight borads, nice stuff) but my main supplier is local (calif).
