I am a model shipbuilder. The scale I work in is primarily 1/64th or 3/16" = 1 foot. The baseboard for the model is 56" long X 11" wide. The baseboard was made from curly maple, joined and edge routed on the full perimeter; also routed for a custom walnut/maple "lozenge design" marquetry inlay (.040 deep) and finished with a satin polyurethane from MinWax (3 coats, 600 steel wool buffing between coats). I purchased the base maple stock from Woodworkers Source and they were very helpful in the selection as well as supplying excellent packaging and prompt shipping. My new secret source for premium hardwoods for museum display model ships!
