Usually steamed to match sapwood and heartwood. Fine but open grain. Moderately coarse texture. Excellent to work including turning and carving.

I used this pen blank with a euro style satin finish pen kit. The results were excellent, a rare gem. Used a satin finish on the wood also. Good comparisson ratio. Interesting wood to work with, texture, color, and marbelizing. Made a nice product.

Nearly all of my dark wood pens & pencils were done in Cocobolo, but after seeing how beautiful these figured walnut pens came out I now have a new favorite dark wood for my pen projects.
