Figured Black Walnut comes from
Eastern USA and Canada
Botanical Name:
Juglans nigra
Other Names:
American black walnut, American Walnut, Black Walnut, Eastern black walnut
Color:
Light to dark brown or chocolate brown.
Characteristics:
Usually steamed to match sapwood and heartwood. Fine but open grain. Moderately coarse texture. Excellent to work including turning and carving.
Typical Uses:
Gun stocks, musical instruments, fine furniture, cabinetry, flooring.

I received 14 pieces that were amazing, but 1 of them must have broke in half during shipment or something. It was still usable but I lost about an inch on both sides of the crack after having to get a straight end. Otherwise, there's really beautiful figure and I would definitely buy it again.

I was very happy with my order of figured walnut all pieces were good size and solid with beautiful figuring. For the LF I received it was a great deal. so far I have only made a couple of gun grips and some inlay strips. I have lots of projects right now but now I have a great stash for when the inspiration strikes for a little work, out of walnut.

Getting pretty pricey this year - 31 percent more than exactly one year ago. Only about half of last year's 15 pieces were good in terms of both grain quality and size. It's up to you, but I'm voting with my feet this year. Maybe next year the price will get more realistic considering the hit or miss quality of any grab-back purchase.

There used to be just 10 pieces in this pack, but we increased to 15 when the supplier had to change specs. The price has always been $49.
