[+] What if I need specific sizes? You'll have to cut your own pieces to size. Hardwood lumber is sold as a bulk raw product, which means that our stacks of lumber have a big variety of sizes most often from 4" up to 12" wide, and 6' to 16' long.
- Only some unusual exotic woods are narrower than 4" and under 6' long. This is clearly stated when that's the case, everything else is larger.
- We always ship the longest boards possible, and rarely ship boards less than 48" long unless you request shorter. The longest we can ship by UPS is 96" (that's 8').
For general fine woodworking, the various widths and lengths meet the needs and desires of woodworkers building furniture, cabinetry, and fine woodwork. But we do understand that certain projects have some requirements, and we're happy to help you out.
Here's how we can help you get the sizes you need:
- We can hand-select material that will yeild what you need. Type your needs into the "Selection" field right above the Add to Cart button above when you place your order. 4 things to know about size requests
- We can do some custom milling or cutting. Please call or email to talk about your needs.
Ground Shipping is included anywhere in the 48 U.S.! (What does that mean?)
- Quantity: A total of 10 board feet (or slightly more) are included, approximately 5 to 8 boards depending on the size

Botanical Name: Acer macrophyllem
What's the wood like?
This flowing three-dimensional figure is most common in big leaf maple, native to the Pacific Northwest. The wood is generally more soft than other maples and a little more porous. Quilted figure, though often used in high end pieces, does present some difficulties in working. Tends to chip when planed, and burns easily when used with power sanders, routers, and table saws.
How's the color?
Creamy white with a reddish brown tinge.
Does it go by other names?
Bigleaf maple, Broadleaf maple, Maple, Oregon maple, Pacific Coast maple, Western Maple
What could I use it for?
Furniture, accessories, and musical instruments
What is the tree like?
A popular, fast growing decorative tree. Matures to about 60-90 feet in height and 30'' in diameter.
Where is it from?
Pacific Northwest USA

Lots of nice figure in the boards I got. Looks fairly quilted on some of the pieces. Happy with my order!

I bought this as a preview for the wood I want to use for my kitchen remodel. It came on time, was beautiful, jointed and planed beautifully and was the envy of the advanced finishing class I took it to. Can't wait to be able to buy stock for the remodel later this year.

Whether you polyurethane or lacquer this wood, it gives a holographic, 2 dimensional look. From an angle it looks "wavy." Very easy wood to work with.
