What makes quarter sawn white oak so special is its appearance. It's one of the few woods that reveal stunning rays, or fleck figure - and that's the kind of white oak that's characteristic in arts and crafts, mission, or craftsman style woodwork. The wood makes exceptionally durable and beautiful furniture because it's dense and hard, yet it saws, routs, planes with better than satisfactory results. It's a favorite among furniture builders.
Finishing tip for quarter sawn white oak: There are a number of finishing methods to make the figure pop. We've found one of the easiest yet effect methods is to use a Danish oil (clear natural or colored, depends on your taste), then apply a clear top coat. Read about it in our blog >>>

A few too many knots, 7.13.2012
Reviewer: Rob Giunta (Stratton Mountain, VT)
Material is OK but not 'awesome' as they would have you believe. It was well packed, exactly the right amount of material and delivered expeditiously, but there are a few too many knots which makes for a lot of cutoffs that are unsuitable for the heirloom quality work I am doing for this customer. I am please that they are actually asking what I think of the order.
Thanks for the great figure, 2.15.2010

I was really unsure about buying this wood without being able to pick it out, but the price was good and I ordered 10 boardfeet. I was nervous opening up the package when it arrived, but I got some beautiful boards that I don't think I could have picked better myself. The coupons you included will come in handy!

I made a coffee table out of quarter sawn oak that I got the plans from a Woodsmith magazine. Came out great. Next time this goes on sale, I'm going to load up on more and make a pair of matching end tables. Great wood to work with, makes proud furniture!
