I'm not crazy about this wood because of the low density. Too soft for my taste, I like ash and hickory better. It does work nicely though. Not a bad price you have.

I love alder. I've made several Mexican theme dining tables, entry doors, and cabinets over the years. It's probably not a good choice if youre wanting to make something that'll take a beating because its prety soft. For southwestern / mexican style stuff, this is the best. Of course, thre's also mesquite but its not nearly as inexpensive.

I really enjoy making furniture out of alder, especially the knotty stuff. It's not very wide, small trees I guess, but I love it anyway.

Alder looks great and is easly worked. however the widest width I could mill on an 8ft board was 5 1/2" from an 8"-10" board. most knotts are very small and tight only a few all the way through both faces. Price is good and shipping had no problems.
