These real wood veneer sheets are composed of premium sliced hardwoods that are spliced along the edges to make the full width; splicing is also done in a book matched pattern that's attractive and helps hide the splicing seam. The sheets use full-length slices so there are no splices to make the length. The 10 mil (10 thousandths) thickness paper backing allows the sheet to bend, flex, and work with curves and shapes without splitting. Apply paper back veneers with contact adhesive to make panels of large projects: conference tables, desks, doors, cabinet doors, coffee tables, etc.

Quantity: One sheet has 32 square feet
Thickness: Aprox. 1/42''. The paper backing allows the thin wood to bend and flex without splitting or breaking. (Wood is sanded to 220 grit)
Widths: 48'' wide, typically 8 to 12 individual slices are laminated along the edges to create the full width.
Lengths: 96'' (8 feet), whole-piece slices make the length (no splicing)

What's the wood like?
Guess where this wood got its name? Zebrawood has a medium to coarse texture and a wavy or interlocked grain pattern. The alternating hard and soft material creates working difficulties, but Zebrawood takes a clear finish without issue.

How's the color?
Golden brown with pronounced dark brown streaks.

Great Wood For Pistol Grips, 5.30.2011

This wood is great to work with. I've made several pistol grips from it and have had great results. I normally like to start with a couple of applications of clear Danish oil but that isn't a real good idea in this case. I darkens the wood to quickly and takes a lot away from the beautiful contrast of the light wood and dark grain. Just start with thin coats of laquer and while it does still darken a little bit, it is still gorgeous. One other note for finishing: when you finish sand if you sand with the grain only you will end up with the harder grain being slightly raised and still get a great finish. This has worked really well for me on pistol grips and knife handle as it gives a texture to the wood for a more confident gripping surface. Next project: a rifle stock for my wife! I have to earn those extra hours spent in the shop! :-)
